‘Yup I’m a Racist’ T-Shirts sold at Rand Paul Tea Party Event
“Yup, I’m a racist” t-shirts find support at Tea Party event (Video)
Once again, “Yup, I’m a racist” t-shirts were on sale at a public event here in Kentucky. A Tea Party political rally, dressed up as a celebratation of freedom and patriotism and billed as the Kentucky Freedom Festival, featured Senate candidate, Rand Paul, House candidates Andy Barr and Todd Lally, along with the famously misunderstood t-shirts.
T-shirt vendor John Lang, whom I confronted at the July 4th Festival in Lexington, was back selling the same controversial t-shirts on the grounds of the state capitol in Frankfort on Saturday. I spoke again with Mr. Lang as well as other attendees of the event regarding the impact of the inflammatory slogan printed on the shirts.
Lang admits that he intended to “shock” people with the racially-charged language on the front of the shirts, but insisted he was using sarcasm to point out how the government had unfairly labeled him a racist due to his support of various constitutional and political issues listed on the back stating, “if they read the back they understand.” While many Tea Party supporters at the event agreed with Lang, a woman attending as a vendor did not. To the best of my knowledge, none of the candidates appearing at the event asked John Lang not to sell his shirts and that may be the real story.
